Y-3 AW18 COLLECTION: PFW

Last season we saw the return to the roots of Y-3, mixing the best of Yohji Yamamoto and adidas in a well rounded collection focused more on accessible and wearable pieces than previous seasons. This included a new slate of footwear styles to pair with its simple sportswear staples that have really helped to elevate the brand to the next level.

The latest AW18 collection is an extension to that DNA – this time pairing Japanese craftsmanship (such as Sashiko embroidery) with cutting edge innovations provided by the minds at adidas (utilising CARBON 4D and BOOST technology). The Sashiko stitching conjures a crucial human element—suggesting the hand of a couturier – and has been incorporated within the stacked logo motif that appears throughout the range.

Apparel-wise; we see much more daring silhouettes. Opting for oversized fits and statement pieces, this collection plays around with layering and incorporating an innovative inside-out fabric concepts that make many of the styles reversible. And moving forward from the graphic-heavy collection for SS18, we see much more all-over prints including a subtle camouflage floral motif to be worn with bold slogans (telling the tale of collaboration and mutual respect from which Y-3 was born).
