THE JAPAN EDIT

A COLLECTION OF MODERN CLASSICS

IN COLLABORATION WITH

MR PORTER LOGO

Its no surprise that if we’re talk about quality and craftsmanship; Japan is up there amongst the greatest, especially when it comes to menswear. But being in the west, these Japanese household names aren’t readily available. For the japanese, fast fashion isn’t really a big thing. If you’ve ever been to Japan, you’d know that its the experience and attention to detail, craftsmanship and each product’s story that makes for a more immersive and enjoyable shopping experience. With the selection being rather slim and usually shoved in smaller sections of big department stores in the west, you never really get the same vibes. In fact, sometimes it may seem off-putting and simply looking at a price tag of a Japanese-made item might have you covering your eyes in disbelief. But if we’re looking at it in a different light; for example asking yourself if you’re looking or something with a great story, handmade with great craftsmanship and if it’s something you want to last your lifetime?, then more often than not, you’ll find it with Japanese-made product.

So when MR PORTER recently launched ‘The Japan Edit” in collaboration with 15 of Japan’s need-to-know brands, it was seriously a breath of fresh air. The collaboration isn’t just a selection of pieces bunged together on the site, but a carefully curated collection designed exclusively for MRPORTER.com by each designer, celebrating Japan’s unique place in the style world. From my personal favourites; KAPITAL  and BLUE BLUE Japan known for their vintage inspired americana denim as well as NEIGHBORHOOD, injecting a greased rock n roll vibe into it’s pieces, to newer brands like AMBUSH® and NEEDLES,

this collection covers all bases when it comes to providing a great selection of Japan’s finest!

Peep below a selection of my favourites from the Japan Edit to show you guys it’s versatility when styling. Remember, sometimes all it takes is simply wearing colourful socks or a neckerchief keeping it nice and minimal. Of course it takes a certain type of person or confidence to rock bright orange but keeping a majority of the outfit in monochromatic colours really helps you to avoid looking like a clown. Plus its the summer… have a little fun!
