We regularly get asked questions on how to dress for the summer season without over-layering or under-dressing. But with London’s unpredictable weather patterns and the ever-changing style trends swarming the nation over the past couple of years, we’ve come to a simple conclusion; if you’re unsure on what to wear, then lightweight and comfortable is the way to go! Our rule is to start from the bottom and work your way up. Yes from the feet!

Now, where to begin? We headed over to Dune London to help us solve our dilemma as they’ve got a wide range of classic and modern styles which we thought would be a perfect fit. For the purpose of this experiment we’re going to focus on more casual footwear from their SS18 collection making sure whatever we choose is light, breathable and also classy of course!

Take the loafer for example. Lightweight materials and simple colour blocking layers are the best options here. We advise not to wear them with socks especially if they’re woven like these BARMOUTH BAY loafers, pairing with some rolled-up white trousers and contrasting printed chambray shirt. Denim is not a bad idea either! And if fear of getting cold is an issue, then a tan suede jacket would be the perfect partner to take you from morning to night.

For travelling however, you’ll want to have something a little more comfy on the feet and easy to pack into a weekender bag.  We understand it may not be the immediate choice for stylish footwear but both espadrilles and sliders can be quite versatile if you style it right. Keeping with a blue colour theme we’ve opted for a pair of navy printed shorts and a simple pullover jacket in cream to match subtly with the sole on these FABIEN espadrilles. With the ISCO sliders it’s as easy as throwing on a 2 piece tailored tracksuit with a printed tee.

Now maybe you’re wanting to go for something more classic with your image. Whose to say you can’t style up in a simple white shirt and beige linen wide legged trousers held up with a pair of braces? Throw on a matching waistcoat and brown tasseled loafers and you’re virtually there. Of course this is quite a strong image to pull off but accessorise with bracelets, rings or a trilby like we like to do and you’ll be looking the part in no time.

There isn’t a definitive rule book on summer style but we always say, experiment often and dress with confidence. There’s no harm in trying something new every now and then mixing classic with more modern styling elements. That’s the key to really developing your own personal style.
